Apply Now: The DO School Fellowship for Social Entrepreneurs

The one-year DO School program is designed to train, mentor, and empower outstanding emerging social entrepreneurs to kickstart their own social ventures in their home countries.

The DO School program teaches the DO School method. It allows each participant – our Fellows – to exchange with passionate peers, engage with current leaders and learn what it takes to turn their own ideas into social ventures in their home countries. The program brings together experienced leaders with the next generation of impact entrepreneurs and enables them to exchange knowledge and experience in a hands-on, effective and fun way.

The program takes place in two phases, the ten-week Incubation Phase on campus and the ten-month Implementation Phase in the Fellows’ home countries.

The Sustainable Cup Challenge

The goal of this Challenge is for the selected Fellows to create an innovative and sustainable to-go cup, as well as a related infrastructure and campaign. To help with answering to the Sustainable Cup Challenge, Fellows will learn from leading experts about a variety of topics including the environmental impact of materials and packaging, recycling systems, as well as branding and campaigning.

Fellows will conduct research to identify and understand their target groups and stakeholders, and into available best-practices regarding packaging materials and design. Based on these learning experiences, the Fellows will brainstorm, identify, and test their ideas for a sustainable to-go cup system for New York City. Focus will lie on finding a viable business solution that is innovative and has real impact on the city.

By answering to the Challenge, Fellows will have learned hands-on how to turn an idea into action during the ten-week Incubation Phase. This process is supported by participation in Challenge Lab, a course which offers knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to successfully solve the Challenge.

While solving the Challenge, all Fellows work on turning their own venture idea into a viable social venture plan that is ready for implementation during the following ten-month Implementation Phase.

The Challenge is given by the DO School in collaboration with New York City`s Office of Long Term Planning and Sustainability and American Friends of Bucerius, with support from PLASTICITY. The Challenge is made possible by Newman`s Own Foundation and the Dekeyser&Friends Foundation.

Applications for the DO School Sustainable Cup Challenge can be submitted between June 28th, 2013 and September 15th, 2013.
