Event (Washington DC): German Power and Leadership
Tuesday, September 27, 2016 – 09:00 – 14:00
The Transatlantic Academy’s ninth fellowship year will focus on how the roles of Germany and the United States are evolving in Europe and the world, as well as the implications for bilateral and wider transatlantic relations, for the future of Europe, and global affairs and international order. This opening conference will examine the politics and legacies of German unification; the politics of European Monetary Union, with special attention to the role of Germany in ongoing efforts to stabilize and strengthen the Eurozone; and the U.S.-German relationship in today’s context of multiple complex challenges facing the transatlantic community, including the United Kingdom’s recent decision to leave the European Union.
The conference will be held at The German Marshall Fund of the United States, at 1744 R St NW, Washington, DC 20009. To RSVP, email Grace Douglas at TAIntern@gmfus.org.
The Transatlantic Academy was created in 2007 as a partnership between the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) and the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius. In addition, the Academy received startup funding from the Transatlantic Program of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany through funds of the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. The Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation joined as full partners beginning in 2008, and the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung joined as a full partner in 2011.
