Heidsieck Scholar Profile: Tobias Axmann

Tobias Axmann is one of our 2016 Heidsieck Scholars, studying for a semester at Oregon State University. Originally from Karlsruhe, Germany, Tobias is set to graduate from the University of Tübingen in 2020, where he is preparing for the state examinations with a triple major in Political Science/Economics, English, and Physical Education.

Why did you decide to study abroad?

Living and studying at a university in a foreign country is an extraordinary opportunity. It would challenge me and I would undeniably benefit from such a momentous experience – not only academically, but also personally.

Studying abroad would allow me to meet people with diverse cultural, political and religious backgrounds, which would make me reflect on my own beliefs and assumptions, as well as open up new perspectives I may never have considered before. I want to be able to contribute to the understanding between nations through this exchange of perspectives.

It sounds like you’re poised to make the most of your time here! What will be the focus of your studies?

I will mainly focus on Political Science.

Do you have any other plans for your time here?

Yes! I will definitely do some traveling. During my gap year after High School I traveled along the west coast and through Canada. So this time I want to discover the American South and the Midwest.

What’s the one thing you’re bringing with you to the States that you can’t go without?

Frankly, there are no specific items I cannot go without. But I will bring some pictures of my family and friends and some bricolage from my seven years old sister.
