TGA: German Policy on the Middle East

The American Friends of Bucerius and the American Council on Germany cordially invite you to a Discussion and Breakfast as part of the 2014 Transatlantic Global Agenda Series with special guest, Consul General, Brita Wagener, who will speak on “German Policy on the Middle East.”

Brita Wagener has served as the German Consul General in New York since August 2014. From 2012 to 2014, she served as the German Ambassador to Iraq at the German Embassy in Baghdad. From 2009 to 2012, she was Consul General in Istanbul, Turkey. Prior to this, she was Commissioner for German Personnel in International Organizations at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Mrs. Wagener was the Minster Plenipotentiary and Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Cairo, Egypt from 2003 to 2006. She served from 2000 to 2003 as Head of the Human Rights Division at the Department of Global Affairs for Multilateral Organizations at the Foreign Office in Berlin. From 1998 to 2000, Mrs. Wagener was Deputy Head of the Personnel Division at the Foreign Office in both Bonn and Berlin. She served as the Deputy Head of the Middle East Division at the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1997 to 1998. Prior to this, she served for three years as Counsellor of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the German Embassy in Tel Aviv. From 1991 to 1994, she was Counsellor of Political Affairs at the German Embassy in New Delhi. She wasFirst Secretary for the Division of Public International Law at the Foreign Office from 1988 to 1991. Prior to this, she served for three years as Second Secretary for Legal and Consular Affairs at the German Embassy in Cairo. Mrs. Wagener studied law at Bonn and Hamburg universities.
