Announcing the launch of the new Energy Law+ Policy Initiative

Since 2011, American Friends of Bucerius (Bucerius USA) has been offering programs on energy law and policy in the United States, in partnerships with Linklaters LLP, the German Consulate General – New York, and others. Past programs have included “International Energy Security” with Amos Hochstein, Special Envoy for International Energy Affairs at the US Department of State, “Breaking News from Germany: The Status of the German Energy Transition” with Dr. Werner Schnappauf, Senior Advisor, Bank of America Merrill Lynch/Chair, and “Energy Supply from Renewable Energy Sources – U.S. and German Approaches” with Dr. Nancy E. Ryan, Former Commissioner, California Public Utilities Commission and Dr. Kai Pritzsche, Partner at Linklaters LLP.

In 2014, Bucerius USA launched the Energy Law and Policy Initiative to promote an interdisciplinary approach to current issues in global energy. Policy and technological developments in the energy sector have fundamentally changed the energy landscape, and the future of energy security and development has become a central focus of domestic, regional, and global policymaking. This multi-faceted program continues the discussion events, but has moved beyond the legal and legislative issues to include changes to the “business” of energy and the impact of regulatory decisions on investments in new energy technology. This initiative is designed to create a platform for exchange and discussion among academia, policymakers, and practitioners, while highlighting various aspects of the energy sector to the greater public.
