2016 Goethe-Institut German Career Fairs
This past October, American Friends of Bucerius represented Bucerius Law School at the Goethe-Institut German Career Fairs in Washington DC and New York. We informed high school and college students of the diverse programs available to international students at Bucerius Law School – the LLM/MLB program, the international exchange program, and the 3 summer programs.
At the New York fair, “Career Booster Germany 2016,” 450 people, including high school and college students, attended to learn about the 22 organizations represented. In between visiting booths, attendees had the opportunity to choose from 48 workshops to join, and the mini-classes reached a total 1070 participants for the day. Inga Diercks, Head of Recruiting and Admissions for the Bucerius Master of Law and Business Program, joined us to inform students about the BLS programs. Ms. Diercks led the “Studying Law in Germany” workshop, with 28 attendees, where she explained the process of becoming a lawyer in Germany and the different paths a student from America might take, using Bucerius Law School as a case study. At the end of the fair, Goethe-Institut held 2 TED-Style talks by Mario Lanzarotti, Chief Happiness Officer at Awl & Sundry, and Dr. Christine Benz, Training Manager at TRUMPF Inc. Lanzarotti spoke about the logistics of working at a truly international company with partners all over the world, and Dr. Benz spoke to the benefits of Germany’s system of apprenticeship as a career path.
Similar to its NYC counterpart, the DC fair, “German4Success,” represented 20 organizations to 450 attendees. They held 36 workshops, all focused on the different opportunities available to students in Germany. American Friends of Bucerius Director of Programs Melis Tusiray served on the afternoon panel titled “My Study Abroad Experience,” which was attended by over 150 students. She also led two workshops on “Studying Law in Germany,” which was attended by 30 students and professors.
It was a pleasure meeting such a diverse group of students interested in an international education. American Friends of Bucerius looks forward to future academic fairs, where we can continue to share the benefits of studying law in Germany. We would like to thank the Goethe-Institut for organizing the fairs and putting together such an engaging program for presenters and attendees alike to enjoy, as well as all of the partner organizations involved in putting on the programs.
