Interview with Anita Delshad, Esq., Bucerius International Alumna 2004
What’s the perfect Bucerius experience for you?
The perfect Bucerius experience for me is increasing my knowledge of not only the law, but also the ways of the world, i.e., through books, lectures and general interaction with Bucerius’ esteemed professors, vast contacts and globally based alumni.
What aspect of Bucerius and the Zeit Foundation is most appealing to you?
The most appealing aspects of Bucerius and the Zeit Foundation are their focus on the increasing globalization of the world and how it will continue to touch every aspect of our everyday lives – be it in connection with the economy, the arts, digital communication/data (e.g., the internet) or world affairs.
What do you value most in the Bucerius family?
I value the fact that the Bucerius family continues to open its arms to its alumni base and maintains an interest in those who have come through its doors, even years after they have left.
What did you enjoy most while in Hamburg?
The thing I enjoyed most while I studied in Hamburg was meeting lifelong friends among the faculty and my fellow classmates/students. For those six months I was abroad, we became each others’ families.
Who do you think should be a Bucerius fellow in the U.S.?
A Bucerius fellow must first and foremost have an open mind. He/she should be someone who is interested in the diverse culture the U.S. has to offer, as, at the end of the day, the U.S. was created by and filled with the children of immigrants.
Imagine you are a fairy tale, what should every American know about Bucerius?
Bucerius is a warm and progressive place to learn and meet people of like thought, i.e., in how we can start a dialogue and ultimately unite people of diverse backgrounds?
What can Bucerius learn from the U.S.?
I have been told Americans are almost unrealistically optimistic when it comes to the state of life and the world. As the world continues to struggle its way out of the global recession, I cannot think of a better “flaw” to have than to maintain a positive outlook. I hope Bucerius spreads this message of hope and faith throughout its teachings.
What is your biggest extravaganza?
My biggest extravaganza is traveling. I can live out of a suitcase for the rest of my life and be forever content. I try to take at least two big trips a year to places I have never previously explored.
What is your current state of mind?
I am looking forward to the future and working hard to build my career while I balance my personal life. It’s a daily challenge.
What German proverb do you like most?
“Man ist boese genug, wenn man nichts Gutes tut.” (“One does evil enough when one does nothing good.”)
