Cristina Dragomir, a visiting lecturer at Pratt Institute, participated in the “Settling into Motion” Ph.D scholarship program for 2010-2011. At the institute, she studies the experiences of immigrant women in the U.S. military.

What one aspect of the Bucerius experience is the most important for you?

It was great presenting my work to my peers and faculty at our annual meeting in Hamburg. The feedback I received was very helpful.

What did you like the most about your time with Bucerius and the ZEIT-Stiftung?

I enjoyed networking with my fellows. Also, everything was taken care of for us, to the smallest detail.

What do you value most in the Bucerius family?

I think it’s wonderful how diverse Bucerius is, with people from all over the world and from different professions. Yet we all come together in one Bucerius family.

What did you enjoy most while in Hamburg?

Hamburg was beautiful; I loved all its neighborhoods. My favorite part of living there was the evening view of the marina.

Who do you think should be a Bucerius fellow in the U.S.?

Someone who can represent the Bucerius family well, and who can help strengthen the U.S. and German relationship.

What should every American know about Bucerius?

Though based in Germany, Bucerius is a great foundation that promotes excellent scholarship, research and networking all over the world.

What can Bucerius learn from the U.S.?

The U.S. is an absolutely fantastic place for new ideas to be explored. This is an example the world should follow.

What is your biggest extravagance?

Ritter Sport Chocolate. I can never get enough.

What German proverb do you like most?

I love this question. “Der Weg ist das Ziel.” The journey is the reward.
