Gerd Bucerius Day – Bucerius Law School gets Involved

The Center for Studium Generale and Personal Development (ZSP) hosted the 2nd annual Gerd Bucerius Day on May 22nd. To honor the legacy of Bucerius founder Gerd Bucerius, more than 80 students and staff members took part in social projects throughout Hamburg – despite the “Hamburg-like” weather.

The scope of the projects was very diverse and included advising non-profits on fundraising strategy, doing renovation work in shelters and community centers, and helping out at handicraft work with the elderly. At the end, participants came together for a barbecue where they had the opportunity to talk about their experiences. To promote social commitment in the long term, social welfare organizations were asked to express their needs in the coming months. These wishes were put up on a “wish tree” so they could be picked and fulfilled throughout the year.

The Gerd Bucerius Day was planned and organized mainly by eight students who took part in a project-oriented course in the previous trimester.
