Speaker Biography

Dr. Werner Schnappauf is senior advisor to Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Germany/EMEA since 2011, focusing on energy, sustainability, and large German accounts.
Dr. Schnappauf, born in 1953, studied Law and Political Sciences before writing his LL.D thesis about the “Sitting of Nuclear Power Plants”. He was appointed Minister of State Development and Environmental Affairs in the Government of the Free State of Bavaria in 1998 and Minister of Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection in 2003. In addition, from 1998 to 2007 he was member of the Federal Assembly (Bundesrat). In 2007, he was appointed to the post of CEO, Director General, and Member of the presidential board of the Federation of the German Industry (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V., BDI), which he held until 2011.
Dr. Schnappauf is member of the Supervisory Board of Allianz Germany. He chaired the Advisory Committee of RWE Innogy and was Board Member of the Forum of Future Energies (Forum für Zukunftsenergien e. V.) as well as Board Member of econsense, the Forum for Sustainable Development of German Business.
