Trajectories of Change — Researching Social Transformation and Political Upheaval in and around Europe
The scholarship program “Trajectories of Change” provides funding for postgraduate researchers in the humanities and social sciences engaged in projects that are focused on historical and current transformation processes in and around Europe.
Mass protests, revolutionary movements, social conflicts and economic crises present challenges to non-democratic regimes at the margins of Europe. These governments cannot guarantee long-term political and economic stability. Tensions between democratic movements and the authoritarian practices of those in power frequently result in polarized societies, outbreaks of violence, crumbling government institutions, and ever growing numbers of migrants and refugees. At the heart of the debate are questions concerning a new social contract and a new social order for these regions.
The topic for 2014 is “A New Social Contract? Reshaping State and Society.” Applications will be accepted until October 20, 2014.
Postgraduate scholarships of 1,200 euros monthly can be awarded for up to three years; additional funding for fieldwork and participation at academic conferences can be made available. There are also scholarships for Masters students who are close to graduating and are engaged in formulating a postgraduate project.
